Penpal Writing Tips

Here's Some Helpful Hints On Your First Letter:

Your first letter will leave a lasting impression. You don't get a chance to make a first impression twice, right?  I suggest writing your letter introducing yourself. Include your name, complete mailing address, age country, hobbies... and exactly what you are looking for in a friend. Always let them know you are responding to his/her ad.

If this is your first time writing to a penpal, you might be a little nervous, not to worry!  You will meet all kinds of people, just as you do outside everyday. Some penfriends you might like right away and others you may not wish to ever write again, and that’s okay! Don’t give up if you do not click with someone because you can always try writing someone else.

  • Be truthful because your new friend can always check it out!
  • Keep your letters interesting to keep your penfriend writing.
  • Ask questions about him/her.. everyone likes to feel important!
  • Enclose a picture so they can put a face to the name.
  • To make sure you get a response, print clearly if your writing is bad.
  • Keep conversation light initially.
  • Never ask for money or talk about your hardship.
  • Do not demand prompt responses because this is considered rude.
  • Be yourself! Do not brag! Do not be flashy or obscene. This is a turn off!
  • Don't use too much slang because some phrases may be misunderstood.
  • Present yourself in a tasteful proper manner, it will increase success.

Wish you much success in your search for a new friend.. Be well! Be happy!

Do and Don't in Penpal Ads
Think of what you’d want to know about someone and answer those questions about yourself. People are more likely to respond to your ad if they are attracted by something you’ve told them about you.
